About Me

I taught medieval English language and literature for over 35 years, first at the College of Charleston and later, at Siena College in Albany, NY. My academic credentials include a PhD in medieval English language and literature (University of Illinois, 1984) and enough academic papers and book chapters to earn tenure and promotion at both institutions.

Besides academic writing, I have pursued creative writing in both genres of poetry and the essay. I have published a number of poems and creative nonfiction essays in literary journals, including The Baltimore Review, The Palo Alto Review, and Kalliope, among others. I have also published a volume of poetry, Earth Science (Troy Book Makers 2013).

Since 2009, I have attended and taught at the Pyramid Life Center Women Writer’s Retreat.  Since 2018, I have also been on the Executive committee for this annual week-long retreat.  I have taught introductory workshops on Memoir and Flash Memoir.  https://pyramidlife.org/

I continue to write poetry and essays, and am completing a memoir, with a working title of Folly:  A Young Professor’s Lowcountry Education.
